Pan-Seared Pork Chops with Creamy Mushroom Sauce
Ingredients:
- 4 pork chops (either bone-in or boneless)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme (or 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Method:
1. Season and Cook the Pork Chops:
- Generously season the pork chops with salt and pepper on both sides.
- In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Sear the pork chops for 4-5 minutes on each side until they achieve a golden brown color and are fully cooked. Remove them from the skillet and set aside.
2. Prepare the Mushroom Sauce:
- In the same skillet, lower the heat to medium and add the butter. Once it has melted, add the sliced mushrooms and sauté for 3-4 minutes until they are golden and tender.
- Incorporate the minced garlic and fresh thyme, cooking for an additional minute until aromatic.
- Pour in the chicken broth, scraping the bottom of the pan to release any browned bits, and allow it to simmer for 2 minutes.
- Stir in the heavy cream and let the sauce simmer until it thickens slightly, approximately 3-4 minutes.
3. Combine:
- Place the pork chops back into the skillet and ladle the mushroom sauce over them. Allow the chops to simmer in the sauce for a few minutes to warm through.
4. Serve:
- Present the pork chops with the creamy mushroom sauce drizzled on top, accompanied by mashed potatoes, rice, or steamed vegetables.
This dish offers a delightful combination of flavors, making it an excellent choice for both casual dinners and special occasions.
